What to Look for in a Wedding Venue

Choosing your wedding venue is arguably one the most exciting and important parts of planning your big day. You may already have dreamt up the perfect setting, whether it be a historic country house surrounded by pristine gardens, a swanky hotel or a bohemian tipi. However, there are a few factors you’ll need to take into consideration to ensure your venue works perfectly for you on the day…

To begin with, decide if you would like your day to take place all under one roof or if you’d prefer a traditional church ceremony with your wedding breakfast and reception in a different location.  Also consider your most important guests, are they close by, or travelling from the other end of the country or from abroad? Work out where the nearest train stations, airports and hotels are to make travel as stress-free as possible for your guests.

Your venue will be determined by how many guests you’re planning on inviting. Booking a spacious venue for an intimate gathering may leave it feeling a little cold and empty, whereby booking a smaller venue when you’re planning on inviting a large family and lots of friends could end up in a bit of a squeeze!  It’s always highly advisable to view a venue when it’s set up for a wedding (or at least see photos of the layout) so you can visualise how this will work for you.

When you close your eyes and imagine your dream day, do you picture a room full of glitzy and glamorous decor or a laid-back rustic feel? Think about how you’re going to style and decorate your venue on the day and whether the building will suit your theme. For example, if you’re thinking diamantes and extravagant flowers then a grand manor house would work for you. If you’re imaging hay bales and fire pits, then an old converted barn could be right up your street!

Make sure to ask your venue if they provide onsite catering and waiting on staff, and if their menu caters for all dietary requirements that you think your guests will need. Hiring external caterers can be costly so if you’re working to a budget, this question should be at the top of your list.
