How to find your dream wedding dress

Aire Barcelona, Madi Lane, Amanda Wakeley, Hayley Paige … all these designers design the most beautiful, sensual, dreamy wedding dresses, they literally take your breath away so imagine walking into a bridal shop and discovering all these amazing designers are in one place … well you can as Karla from Cheshire Bridal Boutique in Tarporley stocks all these designers in her bridal shop!

Not only does Karla have an amazing eye for knowing which dresses brides will love but she also has a knack of knowing which dress is ‘the one’ for you.  We recently worked with Karla on a photo shoot, we were adamant about the dress we wanted her to bring, and yes it did look stunning, but Karla asked us to try a dress that was so far removed from the scope of the shoot that we hadn’t even considered it. We agreed to try the dress and when our model, Erin, walked in there was literally a gasp from everyone as the dress was beyond stunning and Erin just seemed to glow in it.

The dress we wanted for the shoot was a beautiful Amanda Wakely, elegent with a high neck and a low cowl back.

The dress Karla asked us to try was a Aire Barcelona dress, with a full skirt that took our breath away.

And the third dress was a beautiful two piece dress, also by Aire Barcelona and perfect for a bride looking for something a little different.

So basically, the lessons for looking for your dream dress:

  1. shop with an open mind
  2. try as many dresses on as you can
  3. let the bridal shop staff help you, they do this for a living so they know what will work

We love finding out all about the person behind the company and Karla is one of those people you just want to chat away with over a brew and a huge slab of cake. She has a quiet confidence that puts you at ease and you soon realise that her passion for what she does is huge – she absolutely loves what she does, so you know she is the right person to help you find a dress you will fall in love with too.

If you could only stock one designer, regardless of cost, who would it be?

I feel really lucky as I stock all the designers that I wanted in my shop. Madi Lane is just amazing, it’s an Australian designer so I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this as Australia is my second home and we were just so excited to be one of the first stockists of this designer in the UK.

Which designers do you carry?

We carry Madi Lane, Aire Barcelona, GAIA Bridal, Amanda Wakeley and Hayley Paige Blush.

What price range to your dresses start at?

Our dresses range from £1200 – £4000. We have recently put a video up on Instagram chatting about price points and what you can expect where this concerned.

Do you offer discounts and offers?

We usually have offers and discounts on at our trunk show, usually 10% so watch out for these. We do lots of offers on Instagram alongside competitions. We know purchasing the wedding gown can be a big expense when there is so much else to spend on for a wedding so we assist where we can and offer flexible payment methods for our brides.

What size are the sample dresses in store?

Most of our dresses are a sizes 12/14 which is pretty standard for sample dresses.

How long does it take for a wedding dress to be made?

Wedding dresses take longer thank you think to be made and on average its usually around 5 – 6 months, including alterations. In the current climate I would advise brides to order their dress and not delay in purchasing, as the current situation is having an impact on the dress delivery and production.

What is your favourite style of wedding dress?

I adore the Amanda Wakeley designs which are a bias cut made of silk satin and crafted to trace the silhouette, beautifully hugging all the curves in the right places. So sleek and chic not the usual A line, or ballgown type of gown – its a timeless classic.

If you were getting married this weekend, what venue would you pick?

Hamilton Island in Australia at the Barrier Reef

Which celebrity would you like to dress for their wedding?

Emma Watson

What are the wedding trends for 2021 wedding dresses and bridesmaids?

Minimal is the way forward for 2021 for brides but with an edge, for example open back these are so much on trend right now, simple dresses with a high split, pockets every bride loves a pocket! Dresses that can be worn for the ceremony and then adapted for a post wedding brunch. Hayley Paige is great for dresses that have additions for the ceremony and can be taken off for the night time event or post wedding brunch.

What do brides need to think of when choosing their wedding dress?

Themselves! Brides need to stay true to what they want not what they think their parents would want them to wear or their grandparents. In years to come they will look back on their dress and their big day and should feel that they still love their dress. It’s also good to have their venue and theme in mind when choosing their dress, will the dress suit the theme.

Consider how you feel in the dress, if you feel you do not want to take the dress off and you look amazing buy the dress, it’s the one! Don’t feel you have to keep looking for what else is out their when you have found it you have found it, even if it’s the first one you have actually tried on.

How much help and advice do you give a bride … and if they have their heart set on a dress that you wouldn’t recommend for them would you tell them?

We give as much help and advice as the bride wants. Transparency and honesty is very important to us. If a bride looks more comfortable and suits a gown better than another we will give our opinion if we feel it will be received. If a bride truly loves a dress but we feel that they should go for a different dress whilst we will offer our opinion if the bride wants it, it is not our choice it’s the brides. It’s their day, it’s their theme, venue and they know themselves best, it’s not our decision. We are there to offer help and guidance not to push a bride into a dress we want them to take regardless as to whether we think it’s a better fit.

Cheshire Bridal Boutique will be re-opening as soon as the Government gives the go ahead and they will be exhibiting at The North West Wedding Show in September where 6 of their stunning dresses will also be featured in the catwalk show.
